28 irregular migrants of various nationalities were rescued by Navy units after their boat broke down 70 km northeast of El Attaya in Kerkennah (Sfax governorate)TAP reported.
Aged between 9 months and 33 years old, and from different nationalities (11 Congolese, 10 Ivorians, 3 Malians, 3 Tunisians and 1 Angolan), 7 women and an infant were discovered among the passengers.
The migrants set sail overnight from Thursday to Friday from the coasts of Sidi Mansour in Sfax in an effort to illegally reach European coast.
They were taken to the port of Sfax and will be handed over to National Guard units to make the necessary arrangements against them, the same source said.
