Tunisia-84,000 Tunisians work in Libya, according to BTL study

As part of the closing activities for “Libya Day” at the Mediterranean Building Fair “MEDIBAT 2023,” organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sfax (CCIS) from October 4 to 7, 2023, a round table was held on Friday, October 6, focusing on Tunisian-Libyan Cooperation.

During this event, Abdelbari Al-Asti, Deputy General Director at the Tunisian-Libyan Bank (BTL), made a statement to the media, highlighting an agreement allowing payment in Libyan dinar instead of the Tunisian dinar. In this context, he mentioned that a study conducted by the general management of BTL estimated the number of Tunisian workers in Libya at 84,000, with an average wage ranging between 1800 and 2000 Libyan dinars. He added that an application is being prepared to enable these employees to transfer their money directly from Libya, aiming to facilitate exchange operations and transaction conditions.

Abdelbari Al-Asti also emphasized the opportunity to leverage Tunisian expertise, represented by Tunisian companies participating in MEDIBAT 2023, for the reconstruction of the city of Derna, which was severely affected by floods.

“The presence of BTL at MEDIBAT 2023 is aimed at establishing closer ties with these companies, fostering trade between the two countries for sustainable cooperation,” stated the Deputy Director General of the Tunisian-Libyan Bank (BTL).
