Tunisia-After conflicting numbers… Farid Ben Jaha explains amount of cannabis and narcotic pills that seized in Monastir [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, spokesman for the courts of Monastir and Mahdia, Farid Ben Jaha, confirmed that 270 kilograms of cannabis and 10,000 drug tablets were seized. This clarification came after contradicting reports concerning the quantities seized in a recent security operation in the Sahel region.

Providing details of the operation, Ben Jaha noted that it emanated from the coast of the Baqalata region, Monastir, and spread towards the Italian island of Pantelleria. A shipment of drugs was thwarted and brought into the port of Baqalta, leading to the detention of the involved group and the seizure of around 270 kilograms of Indian cannabis, known as “zatla.”

Furthermore, the spokesman remarked that ongoing investigations led to the finding of 10,000 narcotic tablets in one of the factories. The Monastir Public Prosecution Office granted authorization for the arrest of 10 individuals associated with an international network engaged in smuggling and supplying drugs into Tunisian territory.

He also mentioned that efforts are continuing to apprehend the remaining individuals implicated in these crimes, which include participation in a criminal gang focused on drug smuggling and money laundering within Tunisian territory.
