Tunisia-After month of fasting… Maryam Toukabri provides set of nutritional advice for Eid Al-Fitr [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, nutritionist Maryam Toukabri presented a set of nutritional recommendations related to Eid Al-Fitr and returning to the normal routine of eating after the month of fasting.

Toukabri stated that it is essential to maintain three meals a day: morning breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s also advisable to consume small quantities of food without rushing, as the stomach becomes used to the fasting pattern. She stressed the importance of staying hydrated throughout the day by drinking between 1.5 to 2 litres of water daily.

As for Eid sweets, the nutritionist recommended that the quantities that we eat should not surpass two pieces once or twice a day and that we should avoid eating soft drinks at close times, in addition to the necessity to stay away from “coated” and fried sweets that have large amounts of sugar, particularly for individuals who suffer from chronic diseases such as heart disease, arterial disease, or diabetes, and for whom it is necessary to eat sweets without sugar.

She further underscored that eating sweets should not be for some time and should not exceed the first two or three days beginning from the day of Eid al-Fitr, as eating a lot of soft drinks for a long period may result in the body becoming addicted to sugar, which may generate later weight gain or high blood sugar levels.

Our speaker also advised the necessity of adjusting the sleeping pattern and returning to the normal pattern after the holy month of Ramadan, and also practising physical activities such as walking for at least 30 minutes everyday.
