Water resources expert, Hussein Al-Ruhaili, voiced optimism regarding the developments in dam revenues following the rainfall experienced by several regions in the Republic from September to January 9, varying between 180 and 200 cubic meters.
Al-Ruhaili admitted to Tunisie Numérique the importance of these rains, yet underscored that Tunisia still grapples with water scarcity in dam filling. A comparative analysis with the same period in 2023 indicates a deficit of around 200 to 210 million cubic meters. Despite the overall beneficial nature of these rainfalls, particularly for water tables in the central and southern regions, as well as their positive impact on the major agricultural season if they persist until March, dam water resources still reflect a state of scarcity.
He highlighted that overcoming this stage requires achieving a dam-filling rate of 40 to 45%. The filling rate is approximately 29.8%, indicating a considerable shortfall.”
