The prosecution of the Mahdia Court of First Instance has issued a warrant for committal to prison against a citizen of the El-Baradaa delegation who organized a wedding ceremony although he knew he was infected with the Coronavirus, causing the contamination of two people, according to the official spokesperson for the courts of Monastir and Mahdia, Farid Ben Jha.
This person has been accused of intentionally passing the virus on to others. The Communicable Disease Act provides for a prison sentence of one to three years for anyone who willfully transmits a disease.
The defendant had returned from Libya and underwent a period of compulsory quarantine on the island of Djerba. He was told he was infected with the Coronavirus, but returned to Mahdia and organized an engagement ceremony and a boozy party.
A warrant for committal has been issued against him and he will be jailed as soon as he is cured.
