In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, former MP Sahbi Ben Fraj considered that Rached Khiari cannot attack the institution of the presidency of the Republic in this way and then disappear behind parliamentary immunity.
According to Ben Fraj, Khiari did not just criticize Kaid Saied, he additionally accused him of high treason, which represents an attack on national security and calls for legal proceedings and an instant lifting of his immunity.
Characterizing Khiari’s statements as “delusions”, Ben Fraj emphasised that this should be understood in the context of the conflict between the President of the Republic and the Ennahdha Movement.
Rached Khiari is helping the Islamist party achieve its purposes, as he did in 2013 when he alleged that Goubellat terrorists are in fact treasure hunters, he added.
He further called on the Ennahdha Movement to publicly reveal its position in relation to Rached Khiari’s behaviour, to say the least, “disgusting”, not to mention the unfoundedness of these accusations.
