Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, political activist Abdelaziz Gatri today remarked on the press release published by the Ukrainian Embassy in Tunisia, through which it noted that Tunisia supports the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. While knowing that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not commented on the said press release so far.
“It is sad to declare Tunisia’s position through a statement issued by the Ukrainian Embassy in Tunisia,” he said. According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could have issued a press release denouncing this military intervention, which is conflicting with the United Nations Charter and which at the same time recognizes Russia’s right to secure its economic and military security. “The press release must not possess violent remarks or attack one party to the detriment of another, but rather must recognise the Charter of the United Nations”, specified our speaker.
He added in the same context that the dispute between Russia and Ukraine is not new but dates back to the time of the dissolution of the USSR and the independence of the pro-Russian republics. He explained that Russia has the right to defend its strategic interests since the presence of Ukraine, considered one of the defenders of NATO, on its borders poses a significant strategic threat.
