Tunisia-Audit Court: Foreign funds obtained by associations exceed official figures

The Audit Court set the volume of foreign funds directed towards civil society organisations at 68 million dinars in 2017 and 78 MD in 2018. Over 560 organisations declined to inform the general secretariat of the government of the acquired funding.

The court indicated in its 32nd annual report that funding figures as part of international cooperation are higher than those advanced by the Central Bank of Tunisia that is 27 MD in 2017 and 17 MD in 2018.BCT figures estimate for 41% and 22%, respectively, of the projected volume in 2017 and 2018.

The report further pointed out that the general secretariat of the government does not have the essential mechanisms to discover all the breaches committed in this regard and to apply the necessary sanctions.

The Audit Court called for ensuring better coordination in a bid to set the amount of foreign financing and including relevant public structures in implementing international cooperation programmes.
