Tunisia-Daily Digest for June 7

COVID-19 updates:

Health authorities reported 1950  new cases and 32 deaths, bringing the death and infection tally to 12.839 and 355732 respectively.

On the level of the epidemiological situation, the governorate of Kairouan is facing a severe spread of the COVID-19 . The governorate was placed under a one week targeted lockdown and curfew from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am.

 

Likewise, the regional health director in Kairouan called in on citizens to stay at home, given the fact that the virus is spreading quickly in the various delegations of the governorate.

Health minister Faouzi Mehdi also paid an urgent visit to the region. On his part, the president of the republic Kais Saied had given his instructions to the General Directorate of Military Health to secure all human and material support available to the field hospital in Kairouan and work to expand it.

PDL leader Abir Moussi faints:

PDL leader Abir Moussi fell ill in Bardo where she had begun a sit-in accompanied by the deputies of her parliamentary bloc. Denied to set up tents at the sit-in despite the heat, the PDL president became uncomfortable and fainted. She refused to be transported to the hospital.Civil protection agents, therefore, provided her with the necessary basic care on-site.

UNESCO director-general to visit Tunisia on June 7-9

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay will carry an official visit to Tunisia from June 7 to 9 at the invitation of the President of the Tunisian Republic Kais Saied within the framework of the cooperation between Tunisia and UNESCO in the fields of education, culture and in particular heritage.

Nabil Karoui starts a hunger strike

Tunisia deploys 180 troops in the Central African Republic

President Kais Saied has decided to deploy a rapid response unit to the Central African Republic under the United Nations auspices.

The military unit, composed of 180 soldiers, is responsible for intervention missions to shield civilians and ensure the deployment area, including concentrating checkpoints, directing humanitarian aid and protecting personnel and property of the United Nations.
