Tunisia- Decision to remove tables and chairs from cafes is “arbitrary”, according to the cafeteria union

The president of the National Chamber of Cafe Owners, Faouzi Hanefi, called the choice to remove the chairs from cafes as an “arbitrary and futile decision that will not alter anything”, ensuring it is a selective measure as it excludes tourist restaurants and some governorates of this procedure.

Hanefi added on Thursday that a number of cafes were shut down today due to fear among cafe owners that they would not be able to pay workers’ wages in the coming period.

The minister or governor who made this decision is granted a permanent monthly salary, but tomorrow the worker will not enjoy his salary because the owner of the cafe will be closed due to such successive decisions, he told Shems FM.

Hanefi called on “the state and officials” to provide financial compensation to cafe owners so that they can implement these decisions and pay workers’ wages, noting that cafe owners have not received any benefits. compensation for the period during which the cafes were closed during full containment.
