Tunisia-Despite rainfall, dams only 29.5% full

The filling rate of all Tunisian dams did not surpass 29.5%, as of October 25, 2021, according to statistics issued on Monday by the National Agriculture Observatory (ONAGRI).

 

The water resources available in the dams stand on October 25, 2021, at 681.975 million m3, against an average of around 1134.503 million m3 during the three preceding years, a contrast of 452.529 million m3. According to the same source, the filling rate of Tunisia’s largest dam, that of Sidi Salem (Testour, Béja) was restricted to 16% with water stored in the order of 92.495 million m3, while the second-largest Tunisian dam, Sidi Barrak (Beja) is filled at 59.9% with reserves of 171.558 million m3.

For the rest of the dams, ONAGRI statistics reveals a filling rate of around 25% for the Mellègue dam (Le Kef) (13.016 million m3), and 17% for the Bouhertma dam. (Jendouba) (19.064 million m3), 21% for that of Joumine (Bizerte) (25.426 million m3), 70% for the Sejnane (Bizerte) dam (94.431 million m3) and 53% for the Bir Mcharga dam (Zaghouan) (22,100 million m3).
