The Coordination of Families of “Political” Prisoners declared that the health of Issam Chebbi (general secretary of the Republican Party) had “worsened and he lost consciousness today at six a.m. in his cell due to a sharp decline in his blood sugar level.
The coordination committee added on its Facebook page: “He was treated first by those who remained in the room with him, then by the prison nurse, then by the prison physician,” remarking that “despite the deterioration of his health, he declined to end the hunger strike.
It should be remarked that Issam Chebbi, Jawhar Ben Mbarak, Ghazi Chaouachi, Khayyam Turki, Abdel Hamid Jelassi and Ridha Belhaj have begun an open hunger strike to demand their immediate release and put an end to the ongoing proceedings against them and all politicians, media professionals, trade unionists and bloggers detained, before Chaouachi then Belhaj suspended their strike for health reasons.
