Tunisia- El Mourouj: Officials maintain the right to land in the public domain of the State

In a statement published on the official page of the municipality, the mayor of El Mourouj accused officials and members of the municipality’s union of having raided the headquarters of the municipality employing devices carrying waste on March 23, 24 and 25 and for causing an unjustified strike, which disturbed administrative work and the interests of citizens.

According to the same source, the strikers deliberately attacked members of the city council who attended the meeting on March 24, 2021.

The mayor said the demonstrators desire the municipality to answer to relatively illegitimate demands, including transferring one of their own to the law enforcement officers and giving them free land in the state’s public domain.

The mayor declared it is outside the union’s purview to assign officers from one department to another and that land acquired by the municipality is classified as green space. The municipality had bought the land in order to create entertainment projects, he added.

Remarking on the threat of another strike on April 7 and 8, 2021, the mayor said that the municipality will take all needed measures with regard to these people and ensure the proper application of the law without this influencing the rights of civil servants.
