Tunisia – EXCLUSIVE: The movement of diplomats blocked because of two or three people

An atmosphere of dissatisfaction is growling at the moment in the corridors and behind the scenes of the Tunisian foreign ministry. In question, the constant problem of the yearly movement of the heads of diplomatic and consular missions. The diplomats are troubled because of these delays which are repeated every year.

We understand that a diplomat who is designated somewhere in the world would like to be informed of his assignment in advance, so that he can, at least, have the possibility of settling some matters of basic necessities, such as transferring the files of his children who need to continue their education and finding arrangements for even more details.

However, and as in every year, the movement is delayed and ends up falling very late for diplomats appointed, or transferred. This year, the ministry was no exception. And the movement stays, to this day, blocked. And it appears it remains blocked, because of two people, for whom, the ministry is leading negotiations to be able to keep them in the post, beyond the regulatory period of 5 years.

According to  Tunisie Numerique sources, the head of the diplomatic mission in a popular European capital, and the head of the Tunisian mission in Washington. And, about the latter, we can not help questioning why we emphasised so much on transferring him from New Delhi, after 4 years of mission, to designate him to Washington, for only one year and doing everything to ask him for an extension of his mission.

In the meantime, all the potential diplomats who are anticipating their appointment or their transfer, are gnawing their brakes, and waiting for what will emerge from these negotiations which are, apparently, significant enough to explain that they are appointed at the last moment, without giving them time to prepare for their installation!
