The director of the Central Laboratory for the softening and valuation of water, Hamza El Fil, revealed that the Tunisians have deserted water from the Sonede, for bottled waters or, even, waters sold on the parallel market, on trucks and tractors.
The expert clarified that this desertion is due to the modification of the characteristics of the water from the Sonede, part of which has become non-drinking.
He added that the water salinity rate in Tunisia is high compared to international standards and that the only solution stays in softening power plants which are quite expensive.
He likewise pointed out that the inappropriate use of chlorine could make toxic substances appear in drinking water.
