Tunisia-Farid Alibi: “Participation rate in presidential elections to be higher” (Statement)

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, researcher Farid Alibi noted that the participation rate in the presidential elections scheduled for the end of 2024 will be higher.

He said that this rate depends on the nature of democracy currently adopted in the country. “It is a direct democracy after the failure of liberal and inflicted participatory democracy which marked the dark decade where political money, corrupt media, foreign interference and toxic mix between politics and religion dominated,” clarifies Farid Alibi.

He stated that only those who are convinced partake in participatory democracy without being influenced in any way.

“Election participation rates will rise as the political landscape develops. As evidence, participation rates in local elections were high in the interior regions of the country, especially in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, the cradle of the Tunisian revolution where the rate exceeded 26%,” he estimated.

Farid Alibi emphasised that the President of the Republic is the determining factor in the implementation of public policies and, therefore the interest, particularly in presidential elections.
