Tunisia-France: Prosecutor’s Office calls for the extradition of Belhassen Trabelsi

The public prosecutor’s office at the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal has once again requested judges to provide a favourable opinion on the extradition of Belhassen Trabelsi.

Declined by the French courts on July 29, Tunisia’s appeal for Trabelsi’s extradition was contested by the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal yesterday, December 16, 2020.

The appeals court will issue its decision on January 27, 2021.

In June, the Advocate General requested a favourable opinion on his extradition, saying in particular that “the Tunisian state guarantees that, as with any judgment by default, Belhassen Trabelsi can and should be retried for the facts for which he was convicted. in absentia ”.

But Belhassen Trabelsi’s lawyer had claimed that her client risked being subordinated to “inhuman treatment” if returned to  Tunisia based on facts since three of his brothers died in detention.
