Tunisia – Ghardimaou: Riots and suspension of high school supervisor following student suicide

The public prosecutor at the Jendouba Court of First Instance confirmed that the public prosecutor had authorized the opening of an inquiry into attacks on public property and obstacles to the operation of a public establishment, following the riots that happened at the Farhat Hached High School in Ghardimaou, which followed the suicide of a student.

The prosecutor added that the research and inspection team of the Ghardimaou National Security district was responsible for investigating to determine the responsibilities and the individuals implicated in the operation, highlighting that the investigating judge authorized the suspension of a supervisor at the high school, as part of the investigation into the young man’s suicide, and that the investigations are still continuing.

Remark that one of the institute’s students, aged 14, committed suicide Thursday evening by hanging. Which triggered a wave of tension and riots from a number of his comrades inside and outside the establishment. Equipment such as chairs, tables, computers, documents and various equipment were charred.

Security units, regional and local authorities and the Regional Education Delegation had previously interfered to control the situation and prevent the continuation of the riots.
