On the sidelines of his visit to Brussels, the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed oversaw the installation ceremony of the Group of Friends of Tunisia in the European Parliament in the presence of members of the group, led by Vice-President of the European Parliament and coordinator of the Tunisia-European Parliament friendship group Fabio Massimo Castaldo.
On this occasion, the President of the Republic communicated Tunisia’s attachment to its strategic partnership with the European Union and its member countries. He further called for the implementation of a new approach to Tunisian-European relationships taking into account the political and economic changes on both shores of the Mediterranean, in special, with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The head of the state maintained the significance of consolidating the partnership in several fields, particularly concerning the promotion of investment, youth employment and new technologies.
For his part, the chairman of the Group of Friends of Tunisia in the European Parliament expressed full support for Tunisia as the principal partner of the EU. He suggested strengthening the partnership in the areas of economics, education and sustainable development.
Members of the group stated they will include the issue of transforming some Tunisian debts into development projects in their work during this parliamentary session. They further expressed their willingness to support Tunisia’s efforts in the fight against the coronavirus.
