Tunisia-Hamida Al-Bour: “Decision to ban smoking in university institutions is very important ” [Video]

The Director of the Institute of Journalism and News Sciences, Hamida El-Bour, expressed on Thursday, January 4, 2024, that the decision to prohibit smoking in all facilities of the Ministry of Higher Education is considered extremely important, even though it was implemented relatively late.

El-Bour told Tunisie Numérique that adopting such a decision is critical, particularly since the existing smoking ban law in Tunisia has not shown considerable effectiveness.

She stressed the importance of instigating behavioural change beginning from university spaces and highlighted the potential impact on preserving health and the environment.

As of Tuesday, January 2, 2024, smoking is banned in all structures and headquarters of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as in university institutions and areas related to accommodation and catering. This decision aligns with Circular No. 31 of 2023 dated August 24, 2023, concerning the prohibition of smoking in all structures and headquarters of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and university institutions.
