Former education minister Hatem Ben Salem said on Friday, September 18, 2020, that he had proposed, when he was minister, to create a school maintenance fund.
Youssef Chahed, who was head of government at the time, had pledged to allocate 50 million dinars to this project, but in the end, no amount was paid, he regretted.
Speaking to Shems FM, Ben Salem said that Antonius Verheijen, the current head of operations for Tunisia at the World Bank, had assured that he was going to grant 11 million dinars to the department of Education.
The said amount was spent on paying salaries, not on maintaining schools, he said.
