he Omicron variant of coronavirus is now dominant in Tunisia, Director General of the Pasteur Institute and member of the Scientific Committee to Combat Coronavirus Hechmi Louzir said Friday

In a statement to TAP, Louzir added that the test positivity rate is currently about 30pc.

At the end of a meeting of the scientific committee, Louzir recalled that despite the high rate of COVID-19 cases, the capacity of hospitals is acceptable.

The Ministry of Health is currently monitoring the spread of the pandemic as well as the oxygen supply and the general situation in hospitals.

670 patients are currently hospitalized, of which 596 are admitted to public hospitals and 100 to private clinics, according to the same source.

More than 90pc of the cases do not have symptoms, Louzir said. The severe cases of coronavirus are among those who were not vaccinated or did not complete the vaccination process, according to Louzir.
