As Muslim around the world is gearing up to celebrate Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif in Tunisia, Tunisians as every year mark the occasion by preparing Assida Zgougou or White Assida . However, this year may be an exception, Director General of Quality and Internal Trade at the Ministry of Trade Karima Hamami, affirmed that the price of one kilogram of “Zgougou ” has increased to 35 dinars per kilogram this year, compared to 29 dinars last year.
Speaking to Shems FM,she pointed out that the quantities currently available are in the range of 70 or 60 tons, which are the remaining quantities from last year.
Hammami indicated that there is not yet a great demand the material this year, adding, “If there is a high turnout, the prices will be lowered .”
