Tunisia: IMF forecasts growth of 1.3% in 2023 and 1.9% in 2024

According to the World Economic Outlook report for October 2023 released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the growth of the Tunisian economy is projected to reach 1.3% in 2023 and 1.9% in 2024, remaining stable compared to the IMF’s April report.

It is noteworthy that in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, economic growth is anticipated to decelerate from 5.6% in 2022 to 2% in 2023, before experiencing an upturn in 2024, reaching 3.4%.

The report states that based on the baseline forecasts, global economic growth is expected to slow down from 3.5% in 2022 to 3.0% in 2023 and further to 2.9% in 2024. These figures are significantly below the historical average of 3.8% observed between 2000 and 2019.

The IMF report highlights, “Emerging and developing countries are projected to experience a slight decrease in their growth rates, dropping from 4.1% in 2022 to 4.0% in both 2023 and 2024. Global inflation is anticipated to decrease steadily from 8.7% in 2022 to 6.9% in 2023 and further to 5.8% in 2024, owing to the implementation of tighter monetary policies facilitated by a decline in international commodity prices.”
