Tunisia – Increase in consumer prices of 0.6% during December 2023

Consumer prices rose by 0.6 percent during the month of December 2023, after climbing by 0.3 percent during November 2023, according to data released yesterday Friday by the National Institute of Statistics.

The National Institute of Statistics attributes this development, especially, to the registered increase in food prices of 0.6 percent, clothing and shoes by 1.6 percent and education expenditure. by 2.5 percent.

The price index for the “clothing and footwear” chapter grew by 1.6 percent. This is largely due to the increase in winter clothing prices by 1.7 percent and shoe prices by 1.5 percent.

The price index of the “Nutrition and Beverages” group increased by 0.6 percent during December 2023. This is mainly due to an increase in vegetable prices of 4.6 percent, prices of derivatives grain prices by 1.1 percent, beef prices by 0.9 percent and fish prices by 0.8 percent.

In contrast, prices of poultry dropped by 3.2 percent, eggs by 3 percent, cereals by 0.5 percent and edible oils by 0.4 percent.
