Tunisia-Kasserine: Increase in prices during the first days of Ramadan, and beginning of semolina distribution to rural delegations

The Secretary-General of the Regional Office of the Consumer Defense Organization of Kasserine, Neji Kahri, confirmed the intensification of control campaigns carried out by the joint teams of economic control and security services on the occasion of Ramadan.

During the first days of Ramadan, queues and congestion were observed in front of bakeries, due to the lack of semolina. Mr Kahri said that the bakeries obtained their semolina rations to cover all the needs of the citizens of the region and that they will be distributed today in various delegations and rural areas. He even said that prices during the first days of Ramadan have seen an upsurge, adding that a producer-to-consumer point of sale has been set up but “it has not been capable to accommodate and cover the needs of all the inhabitants of the region. The same source added that there is still a shortage and fluctuation of sensitive materials namely subsidized vegetable oil, flour and semolina, despite the pumping of notable quantities of these due to the monopoly of some traders selling retail and confining them to their customers only.
