Tunisia-Kais Saïed: ”Security and freedom are not contradictory”

In his speech, this Thursday, April 18, 2024, on the occasion of the celebration of the 68th anniversary of the creation of the internal security forces, the President of the Republic, Kais Saïed, affirmed that the country confronts critical challenges and that its destiny rests in the hands of its people.

In this sense, he revealed his determination to meet these challenges, whatever their origins, by depending on the country’s potential, underlining that one of the priorities is to enforce the law and apply it to everyone. Kais Saïed noted that growth and stability are impossible without citizen security, public security and financial security, insisting on the imperative to dismantle all criminal networks related to terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, human rights and the orientation of migrants towards Tunisia or other countries.
He affirmed, in this vein, that Tunisia will be neither a home, nor a refuge, nor a passage, nor a point of departure for those who endanger its security. Kaïs Saïed added that security and freedom are not contradictory, the first being the guarantor of the second. “Freedom, nevertheless, does not mean chaos, attack on state institutions, outrages, defamation or paid propagation of rumours, whether from within or abroad.”
