Tunisian filmmaker Leyla Bouzid’s “A Tale of Love and Desire” won the Bronze Stallion at the 27th Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO), organised on October 16-23 in Burkina Faso, under the theme: “Cinemas from Africa and the Diaspora: New perspectives, new challenges.” Following a postponement last February due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FESPACO the leading African film festival which celebrated this year half a century of its creation, hosted over 200 selected films including 15 feature films in competition for the Etalon d’Or de Yennenga (Golden Stallion of Yennega), the grand prize of the biennial, won by “The Gravedigger’s Wife” of Ahmed Khadar (Somalia). The Silver Stallion went to the film “Freda” by Gessica Geneus (Haiti).
239 films out of 1,132 from 50 countries, were shortlisted by the selection committee including personalities from 7 countries, namely Lina Djamila Menzli (Tunisia), Pedro Pimenta (Mozambique), Djia Mambu Nlundu (DRC), Boubacar Sangaré (Burkina Faso), Guy Désiré Yaméogo (Burkina Faso), Khatarina Hedrén Omotoso (Ethiopia), Laza Razajanatovo (Madagascar) and Thierno Ibrahima Dia (Senegal).
