Tunisia-Mnasri reveals dates of 2nd round of local elections and consolidation of Council of Regions and districts(Audio)

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, ISIE spokesman Mohamed Tlili Mnasri disclosed that the date for the second round of local elections in Tunisia is expected to be either January 28 or February 4. He specified that these dates are associated with the disputes in the appeal stage and the date of the general session before the Administrative Court, revealing that all cases in the primary phase were either declined in form or rejected in principle. He noted that the date of the official announcement will be decided in light of the progress of the disputes.

He stressed that there will be a shortening of the deadlines by the Administrative Court, as it is anticipated that there will not be many appeals.

Our speaker added that the second round will comprise 781 districts out of a total of 2,129, covering 36% of it. It will furthermore include only 4 million and 200 thousand Tunisian voters out of a total of more than 9 million voters. There will be also a decrease in the number of agents, out of a total of 40, with only 15,000 included. The second round will also include only 1,500 nominees for each district, and it is anticipated that the second round will be more enthusiastic than the first round.

Concerning the final consolidation of the Council of Regions and districts and the fulfilment of all procedures for local council elections, he stated that it is expected to take place in the spring of 2024, around the end of March and the beginning of April.
