Tunisia-Monastir: A father threatens to throw his baby into the sea if he is not allowed to cross the Italian border

The floating units of the Monastir National Guard succeeded in thwarting an illegal immigration attempt. Several people planned to cross the maritime borders to the Italian coast aboard a makeshift boat, at the Kuriat island,  Secretary-General of the Maritime Guard in Monastir Othman Besbes announced.

In a statement to Shems FM, Besbes pointed out that among those caught was a family consisting of the husband, his pregnant wife, a baby and a child under the age of 15.

According to the same source, one of the people poured gasoline on him and threatened to set himself on fire, while the baby’s father threatened to throw the child into the sea, to force the Marine Guard units to let them continue their journey.

The immigrants were brought under control without any damage. They were taken to the marina of Monastir, pending their appearance in court. On the other hand, four young people suspected of having organized the clandestine operation were arrested and brought before the prosecution.
