Tunisia-MP Rim Sghaier proposes establishment of tax amnesty for small farmers

During a plenary session held today at the parliament, independent MP Rim Sghaier underlined that Tunisia managed to fund the 2023 budget without resorting to a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Addressing the Minister of Finance, the MP suggested granting a large sum to finance the transport of phosphates by train and increase production. “The production of 9 million tonnes of phosphate could generate revenues of 7 billion dinars, the equal of one and a half times the IMF loan,” she added.

The MP estimated that the Central Bank could partake up to 10% in financing the budget to assist the State in mobilising the resources necessary to finance development.

In another context, Rim Sghaier proposed lowering taxes on exporting companies and establishing a tax amnesty for small farmers.
