Tunisia-New measures imposed in Meknassi after detection of UK COVID strain

Head of the Directorate of Basic Health in Sidi Bouzid, Béchir Saïdi confirmed this Monday, March 29, 2021, that four cases of the UK variant were identified in many areas of the Meknassi delegation.

For its part, the municipality of Meknassi issued a statement on its Facebook page, declaring urgent measures to curb the spread of this new variant.

The decisions include the following:

  • Halt of weekly market activity for two weeks, with the exception of fruit and vegetable vendors
  • Suspension of Friday prayer for two weeks.
  • Curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Lifting chairs in cafes for two weeks.

The municipality further decided to prevent all cultural and sporting events and gatherings and emphasised on the need to apply health measures.
