Tunisia-Nineteen people including Rached Ghannouchi, Nabil Karoui and Youssef Chahed prosecuted for electoral crimes

Nineteen people were referred to the Correctional Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance for electoral crimes, the court’s press office announced on Wednesday.

This decision comes after the public prosecutor at the Court of Auditors referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of Tunis the facts that would constitute electoral crimes, in accordance with the provisions of Article 24 of the Organic Law No. 2019-41 of April 30, 2019, relating to the Court of Auditors, said a statement of the Court of First Instance of Tunis.

These 19 people are: Nabil Karoui,Youssef Chahed, Abdelkrim Zbidi, Rached Ghannouchi, Rabia Ben Amara, Slim Riahi, Safi Said, Hamadi Jebali, Hamma Hammami, Salma Elloumi, Mohamed Sghaier Nouri, Moncef Marzouki, Néji Jalloul, Hechmi Hamdi, Ilyes Fakhfakh, Mehdi Jomaâ, Mongi Rahoui, Lotfi Mraihi and Saïd Aïdi.

According to the statement, these people are prosecuted for political advertising, illegal advertising via social media and violation of electoral silence, in accordance with Articles 57, 69, 154 and 155 of the Organic Law No. 2014-16 of May 26, 2014, on elections and referendums.

The press service of the Court states that it was not possible to bring other people to justice for procedural reasons.
