Speaking at a seminar bringing together executives from the health sector, the general secretary of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), Noureddine Taboubi announced that no one is responsible for the defence of religion.
Solely the state has the right to protect religion and not Islamist or other organisations, he stated, referring to the international union of Muslim scholars.
He added that the Ministry of Religious Affairs is the only one legislatively qualified to deal with religious affairs in the country.
Tabboubi indicated that politicians pay no attention to the interests of the people and minimise the intelligence of the young by alluding to what occurred in front of the headquarters of the international union of Muslim scholars between the PDL and the demonstrators of AL Karama.
He similarly criticized the attitude of some political parties which accuse the UGTTof the economic crisis the country is going through.
