Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, clinical nutrition specialist Marwa Talbi noted that it is essential to maintain the benefits that fasting during the month of Ramadan has on the human body and getting rid of toxins, during the Eid period, which is marked by an abundance of sweets and fatty foods.

Talbi added that some recipes can be followed to decrease the body’s absorption of sugars, such as drinking a cup of warm water with a spoonful of lemon or vinegar around half an hour before eating sweets, as this would contribute to altering the level of insulin in the blood. Following up, one should also avoid fried and high-calorie sweets and substitute them with ones that are low in sugar.

As for the primary dishes, our speaker said that the most eaten on this occasion is “molokhia,” which is one of the extremely fatty dishes, underscoring the need to eat any type of salad and vegetables before the main dish to preserve the digestive system and prepare the stomach for a large number of calories.

In the same context, Marwa Talbi stressed Tunisians’ great demand for fast food during the Eid period, emphasising how dangerous this habit is to the human body, which operates to get rid of toxins during the month of Ramadan, and it is vital to maintain this and avoid everything that would harm health.
