Tunisia-PM Hichem Mechichi: “We no longer have the right to be surprised by rains”

“We no longer have the right to be surprised by the rains,” Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi said Thursday evening, recalling that infrastructure in Tunisia is in very poor condition and needs to be improved.

Mechichi had visited the headquarters of the National Office for Civil Protection to monitor the progress of relief operations following the torrential rains recorded in the governorates of Greater Tunis.

“It is unacceptable that this situation happens again with every bad weather, all parties involved must assume their responsibilities and find concrete and effective solutions to prevent traffic from being paralyzed due to heavy rainfall,” Mechichi said.

On this occasion, the head of government listened to a presentation on the interventions of the civil protection units in the flooded regions and the intervention strategy put in place to deal with this situation, indicates a press release from the presidency of the government.

During this visit Mechichi was accompanied by the Ministers of Interior, Equipment and Local Affairs as well as the Governor of Tunis.
