Tunisia-PM Mechichi: Government is not involved in political dispute

Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi on Sunday assigned a working day in Hammamet, Nabeul governorate to analysing the government’s action plan for the following stage. Various ministers, secretaries of state and advisers participated in the meeting.

Various economic, social and development issues of interest to the country at both national and local levels during this grade were reviewed. The priorities of the administration activities for the succeeding stage were evaluated at the meeting.

They involve five axes: stopping the haemorrhage of public finances, concentrating on particular measures for public sector reformation, repairing confidence and growing investments, protecting the purchasing power of citizens, shielding the most marginalized populations and providing more attention to Tunisians abroad. Hichem Mechichi was cited as declaring in a speech that his government “is a government of resolutions and concretisation”. “The government stays away from political bickering. It is not associated with these arguments and is friendly with all components of the political scene. They are allies with whom we operate to meet the expectations of Tunisians,” he said.

He added: “The true battle pursued by the government is, among others, on the battle against poverty and unemployment, developing infrastructure, discussing economic difficulties and the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mechichi also reiterated his commitment to closely observe the situation in the country and to work, through an action plan for the future, to approach the real problems facing Tunisians within the framework of a vision linking the strategic objectives to the expectations of Tunisians. That vision must take into account the specificities of the stage amid the economic, health and social hurdles confronting the country.
