President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed called for reducing the costs of medicines, praising the important role played by private pharmacists in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Receiving Friday, the Director-General of the Tunisian Central Pharmacy, the President of the National Council of Pharmacists and the Secretary-General of the Union of Pharmacists at Carthage palace, the Head of State called on private pharmacists to contribute to lessening the prices of medicines as much as possible in order to help the national effort and help the poor and disadvantaged people.
He additionally recalled that many traders reacted to the appeal he had launched a few days earlier by lowering prices and putting an end to certain illegal practices, in particular the monopoly.
Nevertheless, the world must not revolve around the Covid-19 pandemic, Tunisians require drugs to treat other diseases, he added, emphasising that all prices of drugs must be reduced. Kais Saied further said that Tunisia has received a sufficient quantity of vaccines and that more will arrive in the coming days.
