Tunisia-President Kaïs Saïed: It is out of the question to place the Libyan people under mandate

The Tunisian President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, gave a speech on Monday, November 9, 2020, on the occasion of the inauguration of the work of the Inter-Libyan Dialogue Forum organized in Tunisia under the aegis of the United Nations.

The head of the state repeated that he continued to be convinced that the resolution to the Libyan conflict could only be Libyan-Libyan recording that “some parties were still urging towards schism but in vain”.

“This is a historic moment. A meeting with a history that no one can stand to miss .. Visions and approaches may vary which is completely normal in all nations but the resolutions must remain peaceful. Because wars, conflicts, bloodshed and misfortunes can only give way to hatred, “he said.

“The Libyan people are the most homogeneous people in the world and can, by the will of their sons, surmount the obstacles .. This homogeneity can likewise be promptly realized if no foreign force interferes”, he argued.

“The Libyan people, like Tunisia, paid a heavy price …That the Libyan people regain their absolute sovereignty is the solution. He solely has the right to decide his fate ”, he added before launching:“ It is out of the question to put the Libyan people under mandate in any form whatsoever ”.

Emphasizing that “this meeting was the introduction to a new legitimacy that emanates from the will of the Libyan people”, Saïed called on the various speakers present at the forum to pay particular attention to the electoral law.

“Any choice made with the aim of achieving a specific political result risks further complicating the situation,” he explained.

The President of the Republic took the liberty of suggesting, also, to prohibit by the power of the law the person who would be responsible for supervising the transition period from running for the presidency of the various institutions that would be created in under the new constitution, including the Presidency of the Republic and the Presidency of Parliament.
