Tunisia-President Kais Saied receives Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio,discuss Libyan file

President Kais Saied welcomed on Monday Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio at Carthage presidential palace.
President Saied expressed his deep delight at the excellent level attained by bilateral collaboration in diverse fields between the two countries, reaffirming Tunisia’s commitment to strengthening this partnership. He hailed Itlay assistance to Tunisia in its democratic transition process, combat against terrorism, organised crime and irregular migration.
He further welcomed Italian President Sergio Mattarella invitation to visit Italy, assuring that he will pay the visit as soon as possible.
The two counterparts seized the chance to address the Libyan file, the Head of State reemphasised Tunisia’s stand in support of a peaceful and accelerated settlement of the Libyan crisis, through the engagement of an inter-Libyan dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations.
He asserted that Tunisia welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire in Libya, affirming that the country will continue to perform a positive part in bringing the different Libyan protagonists closer together.
On his part, Italian Minister Luigi Di Maio pointed out Tunisia’s pivotal part in the resolution of the Libyan crisis, praising the President of the Republic’s initiative to draw together representatives of the Libyan tribes and civil society in Tunisia.

He asserted that Libya stability cannot be achieved without the involvement of neighbouring countries including Tunisia, stressing the necessity to include Tunisia in the Berlin conference on Libya. Luigi Di Maio repeated his country’s readiness to boost partnership with Tunisia, announcing in this regard, the advancement of projects to step up investment and generate jobs for young Tunisians.
