Tunisia- Rached Ghannouchi: “The role of the president is symbolic”

Speaking at a virtual conference held yesterday, Saturday, January 30, House speaker Rached Ghannouhi affirmed: “The role of the President of the Republic is symbolic concerning the swearing-in crisis”.

For Rached Ghannouchi, “Kais Saied is abstaining from summoning new ministers to take the oath of office which confirms he is against the recent reshuffle.” “He believes he has the right to accept some names and refuses others, it is the problem of the mix-up between the parliamentary and presidential systems,” he stated.

Ghannouchi maintains that Tunisia has a parliamentary system and that the role of the head of state is a symbolic one, and that the issue of government belongs to the ruling party and is essentially the responsibility of the government.
