Tunisia- Resumption of phosphate mining activities in Mdhilla

Phosphate mining activities resumed on Saturday, August 8, 2020, in the Mdhilla district under Gafsa Company, the company’s second-largest production region after Metlaoui.

Work resumed during the first working session, after a 68-day hiatus due to sit-ins and protests from several unemployed demanding jobs.

The demands of these sit-ins were left to the future government, which was given a period of three months to honor its previous commitments for the benefit of the organization, in particular those related to employment and development.

The resumption of the phosphate activity in the district of Mdhilla will ensure the supply of the Tunisian Chemical Complex plant, after being the victim of a stock shortage during the suspension of delivery and the disruption of works of some units.
