Tunisia-Hospitals well prepared to admit patients in event of second wave of COVID-19

Tunisia’s hospitals are well prepared to admit COVID-19 patients in the event of a second wave, said Director-General of Health Tahar Gargueh.

Gargueh told TAP on the sidelines of a roundtable meeting on COVID-19 and women’s sexual health held Friday at the seat of the National Board of Family and Population (French: ONFP) the coronavirus response plan is based on anticipatory action to address a potential second wave without the healthcare capacity being overwhelmed.

Gargueh said the stock of COVID-19 RT-PCR tests meets needs until September, pending the receipt of an order of approximately 300, 000 tests. Tunisia has a sufficient stock of rapid diagnostic tests that are useful only in the event of cases increasing, he said.

Gargueh announced the creation of a COVID-19 vaccination committee made up of 19 medical and scientific experts in virology, immunology, epidemiology…

This committee, which started its works last week, is in charge of identifying at-risk people who need to have priority vaccination once a vaccine is found, approved and distributed.
