Tunisia-Saâdeddine Zmerli passes away

Professor and urologist Saaddedine Zmerli passed away on Friday at the age of 91.

The late occupied the position of Health Minister from 1988 to 1989, before being named Ambassador to Switzerland.

He is a founding member of the Tunisian League of Human Rights (LTDH), of which he was the first president for four terms, from May 7, 1977, to February 14, 1982.

Zmerli played an outstanding role in the creation, in 1973, of the urology department at Charles-Nicolle Hospital in Tunis, where he succeeded with a medical team in performing the first kidney transplant at the Maghreb level, in 1986.
