Tunisia-Sahbi Maalaoui: To celebrate Aid, 40% of Tunisians purchase second-hand clothes (Statement)

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, president of the National Chamber of Thrift Store Traders Sahbi Maalaoui stated  that 40% of Tunisians purchase clothes (ready-to-wear) from thrift stores.

“This shows the decline in the purchasing power of Tunisians. The thrift store satisfies the needs of all social classes. This is why the attendance rate is constantly improving during Aid days ,” explains Maalaoui.

“A budget that ranges between 60 and 150 dinars can satisfy a child’s needs for Aid clothing”, he adds

Sahbi Maalaoui believes that the upsurge in second-hand clothing prices can be clarified by several factors, notably the increase in taxation and the high cost of transport, labour and goods.
