Tunisia-Saied: ”In the Constitution, Islam is the religion of the nation”

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed remarked, during his visit to Carthage airport to greet the first pilgrims who will head to Mecca, this Tuesday, on the occasion of the Hajj, the deletion of the reference to the Islam in the first article of the Constitution, revealing that the State is a moral entity in the same way as a company and administrative institutions and that (the State), will not go to heaven or to hell.

The question is solely about the man,” he said, stating that the state aims to achieve the purposes of Islam. “The purpose is not prayer, fasting and pilgrimage but rather, the goal of these acts of worship”,he said. In this regard, Saïed revealed that in the next Constitution, we will not speak of a State whose religion is Islam but rather of a nation”.
