The strike is a response to the administration procrastination and inaction on matters associating to the professional and economic rights of journalists. At

The Board members further accepted to stage a day of anger on November 26 followed by rally rallies in the Government Square and across the regions from 11:00 am. A meeting is next projected at the union’s headquarters requesting for powerful participation of journalists to protect their rights. Essentially, The SNJT demands the publication in the Official Gazette (French: JORT) of the two agreements (a framework agreement and a sectoral agreement) and to begin the process of reforming the public media firms.

The union additionally calls for the payment of compensation to journalists in seized media and the regularisation of precarious situations. Other requests include the recruitment of graduates of the Press and Information Science Institute, the implementation of previous measures taken to support media and journalists affected by the coronavirus pandemic and the establishment of a public advertising agency.
