Tunisia – Sousse: Eight tons of poultry seized in an illegal slaughterhouse

During a nighttime operation from Tuesday to Wednesday, agents from the Sousse North National Security District raided a clandestine poultry slaughterhouse in Akouda. The raid resulted in the seizure of around 8,000 kilograms of chickens that were illegally slaughtered, breaching health and safety regulations. These chickens were predestined for sale in restaurants, as confirmed by a security source.

In addition to seizing all equipment discovered at the site, the authorities apprehended the owner of the premises, who hails from Zawiya Sousse. This action was taken after consultation with the public prosecutor and led to charges against the owner for setting up a clandestine facility for the slaughter and sale of poultry. The charges include breaches of safety and health commitments, non-adherence to sanitary practices, sales fraud, offering unhealthy food for sale, and operating an unauthorized business.

Similarly, nine workers from the slaughterhouse were also detained and faced legal proceedings.
