Tunisia-Tahya Tounes denounces the insult of women by MP Mohamed Affes

Tahya Tounes firmly denounced Al Karama coalition MP Mohammed Affes act of insulating women during the plenary session to examine the ministry of women budget. The party deemed the act as a slam against the Tunisian constitution, the values of the republic, the Personal Status Code, and all legislation shielding Tunisian women and their gains.

In a press release, the party denounced the persistence of the discourse of violence against Tunisian women by some MPs and the takfiri rhetoric that identifies with terrorism and the deception of human rights and feminist civil society organizations, under the pretence of freedom of expression.

Likewise, the political party called for the activation of the 2017 law for the Violence Against Women, it further evoked that this law, in its 18th chapter, imposes prison on every perpetrator of political violence against women.

Tahya Tounes further called on the parliament’s office to secure the required disciplinary measures in order not to repeat these actions under the roof of the parliament.

It called on the administration and the Ministry of Women to answer to these statements and to play their function in safeguarding the rights of Tunisian women.

Finally, it also called upon all civil parties and civil society organizations to confront the systematic attack against the gains of women and the values of the Tunisian Republic.
